Comprehensive Benefits for Faculty and Staff
HEALTH BENEFITS
HEALTH PLANS 

The University of Michigan offers a choice of health plans as part of a high-quality benefits package that helps you stay well and protect yourself and your family. Eligible employees can select from Comprehensive Major Medical, U-M Premier Care, and Community Blue PPO. Michigan Care is also available to those who live in the service area. Prescription drug coverage is included when you enroll in any U-M health plan. 
 

DENTAL PLANS 

Three dental plan options, administered by Delta Dental of Michigan, are designed to promote regular dental visits and good oral health. 
 

VISION PLAN 

Benefits are provided by Davis Vision. Each enrolled person may receive an eye exam, one pair of eyeglasses or contact lenses, and frames once each calendar year. There is a monthly rate for enrollment in the plan and there may be an additional copay when you receive services. 
 

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS

Set aside pre-tax dollars for health care and dependent care expenses.

COMPENSATION 

The University of Michigan pays employees in ways that reward contribution, recognize quality performance, and encourage growth and development. Market competitive salaries. Sign on bonuses are offered for some positions. 

 
RETIREMENT PLANS 

Two-for-one university match of your pre-tax contributions to the Basic Retirement Plan after 12 months (up to a defined maximum). Save even more for retirement on a pre-tax or Roth after-tax basis with a 403(b) Supplemental Retirement Account and the 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan. Invest with TIAA or Fidelity Investments, or both. 

 
LONG-TERM DISABILITY PLAN 

Receive 65% of base salary, full retirement contribution and continuation of benefits if you become totally disabled. 

 

LIFE INSURANCE 

Automatic $30,000 coverage on date of hire. Additional coverage up to 8 times salary is optional. 

 

LEGAL SERVICES PLAN 

Professional legal assistance on a range of matters for a low monthly fee is administered by MetLife Legal Plans. The plan provides access to a network of participating attorneys in private practice to help you with personal, confidential legal matters.

Programs and courses are available to all employees regardless of their level or field. Tuition support for Non-University of Michigan courses provides up to 75% of the in-state tuition, technology, and registration fees with a cap of $6642.00 per year.
